Before Infamous, Sucker Punch was best known for it’s quirky platform series Sly Cooper. With it’s cell-shaded graphics, slick level and character designs, Sly Cooper quickly became a premiere title for Sony. Sadly for me, I missed the boat on the series back in the day and not because I wasn’t interested – I was too busy and never seemed to get around to it.

Luckily for me and everyone else, Sony just re-released the series in the same fashion as the God of War series. All 3 original titles in one remastered were recently released in time for the Christmas/Holiday season.

For those of you not in the know, the series is your typical platformer with jumps, switches, puzzles and enemies that you dispatch.

In the first game, players take on the role of Sly Cooper, a mischievous raccoon who must retake a family heirloom called the “Thievius Raccoonus”, a book listing all the special thieving skills his family has collected over several centuries. Meanwhile, Sly and his gang must keep ahead of Interpol Inspector Carmelita Fox, who promises to one day capture Sly and put him away for his crimes.

There are even Move mini-games that are unlocked by completing the games and challenges. It’s a fun game that’s is also a nice change of pace away from the standard FPS titles chock full of explosions, swearing children and gunfire with great production value. Sadly I fear that amid all the triple A current Gen titles, this reissuing will be forgotten and ultimately miss it’s opportunity to receive the high praise and accolades it deserves. I assure you that this is a great series and a fantastic re-release worthy of your time and money. Be sure to put this under the tree at Christmas even if it hasn’t made anyone’s list – They’ll thank you for it later.

Pros:
The remastered graphics look spectacular
Nice change of pace away from war
Tight responsive controls
A true homage to the classic platform titles of yore

Cons:
Enemies can be a little “Too dumb” and linear in their reactions
Some levels still feel a little short

Feed Your Console gives Sly Cooper Collection: 8.5 out of 10
