The time has come – The Internet is poised to invade your living room in the form of “On Demand Video Streaming” hardware and software. As we brace for the massive flood of gadgets that are all vying for your hard earned dollar and space in your home theater bringing you the best of what the web has to offer in streaming media, we take a look at DLinks “Boxee”. The hardware for the Boxee is set for release this week (I’m very patiently awaiting my review hardware) but that’s not to say that you can’t play with the features of Boxee right now.

If you head on over to the Boxee Site you can actually download the software for free. Just create an account, download the software, login and watch away. I was amazed at the sheer number of shows I was able to find and all could be played through my computer. I was even able to find popular shows that I’ve missed this season like South Park (EVERY EPISODE IS THERE FOLKS!), The Event and How I Met Your Mother and all in very high quality video and HD. I can’t say there are no commercials because there are a few but the episodes I watched consisted of 1 or 2 20 Second ads. A small price to pay for such convenience. Boxee also connects to your Facebook and Twitter accounts so you can share channels with your friends and see what they’re watching.

If you like what you see, today is the day that you can wander over to your nearest electronics retailer to pick the Boxee Box. A slick looking …well…box that connects directly to your TV via HDMI port and your exisiting internet through RJ45 or the built in 802.11n wireless connection all from the comfort of your couch using the included QWERTY keypad on the remote control.

Expect a full review as soon as my hardware arrives. In the mean time check out the Boxee site and the following images to whet your appetite.
