Good news on the Canadian game development front, after a string of closures in the last 6 months, THQ has announced a new studio opening up in Montreal. This studio will be the second studio for THQ in Canada joining fellow THQ studio Relic Entertainment located in Vancouver BC. THQ in partnership with the Quebec government plant to grow the new studio to over 400 bodies. This ambitious plan will make this new studio one of, and possibly, the largest in the THQ’s development locations.
The Montreal Studio will be managed by gaming veteran, David Gatchel of THQ’s Paradigm Entertainment division most recently known for; Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights, Stuntman: Ignition and BattleZone. THQ Montrealexpects to create jobs in all aspecs of game development from; design, engineering, art, content and technology development, quality assurance and localization. This studio will also focus on continued development of THQ’s core game library and providing support for THQ’s worldwide studio system. THQ Montreal is planning on moving into their new home some time in 2010 and has already announced plans for a release in 2013.
